What It Is
From San Francisco to Lake Tahoe and nearly every place in between, "What It Is" has been entertaining Northern California with a groovalicious mix of soul, funk, reggae and blues, for the last 15 years. The band made a name for itself in the Sacramento area at premiere hotspots like Harlow's Nightclub and Marilyn's in Sacramento, Power House Pub in Folsom, and Cooper's in Nevada City. In 1997, the band wowed Bay area audiences with a headline performance at the world renowned Filmore Auditorium in San Francisco. In 2001, the band was nominated for a Sacramento Area Musician’s Award (Sammy) for "Best Area R&B and Soul Artists."

Band members have performed with musical greats such as B.B. King, Elvin Bishop, The Drifters, Percy Sledge, The Shirelles, Norton Buffalo, Gary US Bonds, Stevie Nicks, Huey Lewis and the News, Delbert McClinton, Roger and Zapp, Chico DeBarge, Buffalo Springfield, Greg Kihn Band, Sly and the Family Stone and the list goes on and on.

This professional party band keeps people dancing all night long, covering old school favorites by Steve Wonder, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Parliament, Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley and many more. They are available for private parties, clubs, wedding receptions, and special events of all kind and can tailor their extensive repertoire to fit any special need.

Although the lineup has changed a bit throughout the band's history, founding members Chris Musci (guitar) and Tim Tucker (vocals), together with the soulful voice of Daniel Wiley (vocals/percussion), keyboard wizard Jimmy Malone and the tight rhythm section of Spike Daly (bass) and Phil Speer (drums) remain dedicated to providing exceptional musical entertainment.
